Michael Fulmer Sporting News AL Rookie of Year 2016

Michael Fulmer of the Detroit Tigers was selected the Sporting News American League Rookie of the Year for 2016. This season the RHP had split 2016 between Triple A Toledo and the Tigers. He was 1-1, 4.11 ERA, 20 K, 1.37 WHIP, .258 BAA in 15.1 IP over 3 games at Toledo and 11-7, 3.06 ERA, 132 K, 1.12 WHIP, .231 BAA in 159.0 IP over 26 games with the Tigers.

He finished with 61 votes from his fellow players. Tyler Naquin of the Indians was second with 35 votes. The remaining of the top five were Gary Sanchez (Yankees, 27), Nomar Mazura (Rangers, 13) and Tim Anderson (White Sox, 9). 

He was originally drafted by the Mets with the 44th pick of the first round in 2011 and traded to the Tigers in 2015. Fulmer turned 23 on March 15.
